The product works through a lipolytic mechanism of action. Lipolysis is the catabolic process that breaks down triglycerides stored in fat cells and subsequently releases free fatty acids and glycerol.

The most important polyphenol in Sinetrol® is naringin, which occurs in high amounts in grapefruit. It's a bitter compound best known as a natural component of grapefruit, mainly responsible for its bitter taste, and it's also found in pomelos. Studies suggest it triggers the expression of genes that each improve the body's use of free fatty acids for energy production. Fatty acids are an important fuel for the liver, kidneys, heart and skeletal muscles. Lipolysis is the body's most important regulatory mechanism for fat-based energy supply, as it controls the release of free fatty acids into the plasma.
